you need rental insurance for the contents but seeing how insurance is also based on credit score now your best bet is to call around and get quotes and then compare….

I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice about house insurance. We’ve been paying insurance as if our house is worth 224,000 still however it is worth about 175,000 now because of the economy. Would it be a bad idea to assume we are over insuring our house and drop our policy down to about 165,000 with a $ 1000 deductible? Just want some opinions on this.

You never insure the house for the value, you always insure the house for the cost to rebuild.

Although home prices have gone way down, home construction costs have increased. All of the standard insurance companies will only write for replacement cost. This is because stupid people in the past had insured their home for value, and then they sued the insurance company because they didn’t get enough to rebuild.

The few companies that will insure for lower than replacement will actually charge you more premium.

You would file under your homeowner’s policy. I would bet that the deductible would be more than just going to buy a new laptop. I would check that out before filing a claim.

Well it was the car that was broken into, so your auto insurance should cover it if you have full coverage. Unless your car was in your garage, then I don’t know.
