1. How Do You Know?

1. How Do You Know?

Freshman Organic Chemistry (CHEM 125) Professor McBride outlines the course with its goals and requirements, including the required laboratory course. To the course’s prime question “How do you know” he proposes two unacceptable answers (divine and human authority), and two acceptable answers (experiment and logic). He illustrates the fruitfulness of experiment and logic using the rise of science in the seventeenth century. London’s Royal Society and the “crucial” experiment on light by Isaac Newton provide examples. In his correspondence with Newton Samuel Pepys, diarist and naval purchasing officer, illustrates the attitudes and habits which are most vital for budding scientists – especially those who would like to succeed in this course. The lecture closes by introducing the underlying goal for the first half of the semester: understanding the Force Law that describes chemical bonds. 00:00 – Chapter 1. Question by aquariusgurl: Does anyone know of Good coverage/ reasonable priced home owners insurance?
I have tried AAA and their quote seemed outrageous. Is there an insurance company that you know of that offers good coverage at a reasonable price? I am also looking to switch my auto insurance.

It would be for a home in Michigan.

Posted by in Monday, April 09th 2012

Question by LostTeen: Anyone know any car insurance company’s that can offer cheap car insurance for a 18 year old?
I am 18 and just bought a Nissan Altima 08. I live in California, Los Angeles. I am trying to get insured and they want to charge me $ 3000 a year. Thats $ 250 a month for car insurance. Its more then my car payments. Anyone know any insurance company that can offer a better deal?

Best answer:

Answer by oklatom
Cheap and 18 is an oxymoron. Add CA to the mix and it gets worse. Then factor in an almost new car…

If you live at home, get added to your parents insurance. If you don’t, talk to an independent agent to see if you can do any better.

What do you know about home insurance involving a fire?

Posted by in Wednesday, April 04th 2012

Question by : What do you know about home insurance involving a fire?
My friend had a fire in her home, during the final days of the sale. The insurance company is trying to prove fraud on her part, which there is none, and she has not paid out since Sept. 28, 2008. She is going for a polygraph test later next month, in the mean time she has no where to live, they have given her $ 2500 living allowance and refuse to give her more at this time. Any suggestions on what she can or should do?

Best answer:

Answer by kerri
If she truly did nothing to cause the fire, then it may be time for her to hire an attorney.

9 months to settle a claim is not really an unreasonable time, especially if there are suspicious circumstances. And if they do prove that she started the fire, that $ 2500 they gave her under the “additional living expense” portion of her homeowners policy, they are going to want it back. If she started the fire, they legally don’t have to pay her a dime, including living expenses.

Question by TORI: Do home insurance inspectors know the zoning laws?
I was wondering if home insurance companies know the zoning laws of what animals you can keep on your property?

Best answer:

They would have a general idea. Most insurance policies are void if any of the animals listed as dangerous is on the property without that animal having a bond.

Insurance Underwriting: Anybody know of any companies that would underwrite and brand a home insurance policy?

Posted by in Sunday, April 01st 2012

Question by Alize: Insurance Underwriting: Anybody know of any companies that would underwrite and brand a home insurance policy?
I am with a home improvement magazine which specializes in advertisements and we are interested in finding an underwriter that would be willing to brand a product – a home insurance policy. The underwriter will handle all daily operations regarding the insurance in itself, and in turn, we would divert all applicable traffic to you via our publications. Our magazine has an extremely large following, and is trusted and well respected. I am interested in names and phone numbers from probable companies which may be able to assist us. Please, valid answers only. Thanks!
We distribute to over 4 million homes per month, with franchises in 26 cities and growing. The people who recieve our magazine are pre-screened and meet certain qualifications and all own their own homes. We have been in business for the past 6 years.

LOTS of companies underwrite and brand homeowners insurance policies.

You can’t start your own company, though, without permission of the insurance commissioner in every state you want to write business.

What you REALLY want to do, I think, is do “program insurance” kinda like AARP and AAA do. They have arrangements with carriers, to write business with them.

What you CAN’T do, is make any money off of referrals. See, that’s heavily regulated in each state, and if you’re not licensed to sell insurance, you can’t receive “kickbacks” or “finders fees” or “commissions” on policies.

Keep in mind, homeowners insurance is a loss leader. A PROFITABLE company pays out about $ 1.10 in homeowners claims, for every $ 1 they take in, in premium. Policies are underwritten in a very cookie cutter manner.

So, I’m not sure what you’re really looking for here, or how large a “book of business” you’re willing to offer. Or, the QUALITY of the book of business. Can you promise 100,000 owner occupied, single family homes without pitt bulls, that have been completely updated within the past 25 years, and have owners with credit scores over 650? Or are you trying to find a market for substandard business?

You need to be A LOT more specific.

Q&A: Do you know about home insurance paying for new windows?

Posted by in Thursday, March 29th 2012

Question by alex-mommy: Do you know about home insurance paying for new windows?
I live in a moblile home and have double pane windows. My windows sweat and cause the wood on the inside to be damp and if they aren’t molded already the will be. Has anyone had this happen and will the insurance company pay for them to be fixed or is there a way for me to fix the myself where they won’t sweat?

Best answer:

Answer by car253
The insurance will not cover that. Insurance does not cover what would probly be considered a “maintenance issue”.

You might try Home Depot or repost under a construction category or something similar. Also, try DIY network.

good coverage
low deductible
nothing shady, or in the small print that is kind of dishonest

does the deductible include the monthly insurance premium?
Do health insurance companies ever allow a person to have a policy through their company as well as a policy through another company?
Are there any reasons you may be denied the insurance?

Best answer:

Answer by Insurance Pickle.com
depends on where you live and there would be no reason to have two coverages as most companies forbid this anyway.
