Question by K-: when you have a flood in your home and you are at fault, will the home-owner’s insurance co pay out?
We had a flood in our home, due to a hose not being replaced where it needed to be to empty the water out of the house from our washer. Will a home insurance compay payout if it was our fault that the hose fell out of the correct spot? Should we disclose this info? Thank you.

You should check your insurance policy because most of them dont cover flood insurance. You usually have to buy separate insurance for that.

Can a mortgage company keep money from a homeowners insurance settlement without paying contractor?

Question by : Can a mortgage company keep money from a homeowners insurance settlement without paying contractor?
I work for a contracting company and recently we changed the roof on a house that was damaged by a storm. The insurance company sent a check to pay for the work done on the roof. The check was drawn out to the owner of the house and the mortgage company, the owner told the mortgage company to keep the money from the insurance settlement to pay for his past mortgage payments and now the owner has not paid us (the contractor) and the mortgage company refuses to hand over the proceeds to us (the contractor), when the roof has been completely repaired. Is this legal?

Since the check was written to the owner and the mortgage company who ever cashed it can do what ever they want with it.

Sue them for payment.

Q&A: How do homeowner’s insurance companies know if people lie on claims?

Posted by in Sunday, March 18th 2012

Question by punkangel070: How do homeowner’s insurance companies know if people lie on claims?
If a person filed a claim for theft, burglary, or anything of the sort, how do the insurance companies know if they’re lying or not? Even if people provide receipts or pictures, do they go through a process to make sure that the item was purchased by that person? You also have the right to black out any personal information, that way your credit card information will be secure. So what do insurance companies have to work with? If someone’s crafty enough, they can forge receipts, take fake pictures, or find some way to obtain owner’s manuals to provide fake proof.

Posted by in Thursday, March 01st 2012

Question by JY: Can a homeowner’s insurance cover an auto stolen because keys were taken from break in to home?
My friends home got broken into and car keys were stolen and with that stole the vehicle. The vehicle only had liability insurance. Now both homeowners and auto insurance are telling them that they won’t pay for that loss. Is this correct in any way? The vehicle has a value of $ 7K. Would obtaining an attorney be helpful?
