While this is an old video, I have to point out: even people who are poor can’t always get Medicaid. Nowadays they have giant wait lists and many people sit for years uninsured on said wait lists. Just a little tidbit.

See, my mum had really bad stomach aches for a while. And was quite thin. Eventually her aches got so bad she needed to be taken to the hospital, and turns out she was a coeliac. My brother had bad pains near his kidneys and was given medication. I just don’t see why you would pay for that.
@sileb13 Surely the fact that as an American in the UK, you still have the same rights and healthcare available to you as a British citizen. The NHS is by no means perfect, but how many things that are over 60 years old are? The point is we need to improve on it, not just say “It’s broke! Next plan please!”
@MsIdontmakevideos The NHS does not rock — I am a US citizen living here in the UK and the quality of the healthcare over here definitely inferior to that of the United States.
That said, I fully advocate socialized healthcare because the potential drop in quality is mostly irrelevant… The point is that a person’s wealth should not determine whether or not they are allowed to receive care; care that is, in many cases, essential to their pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

I’ve been poor my whole life, which has made me healthier because of work and because of the fact that nutritional foods is CHEAPER than junk, both in terms of quality and quantity. Your argument is total garbage without any facts. Your argument is the industry’s argument, so they can get more money, more consumer leverage, and more power, when personal health is directly tied to personal choice, plain and simple.

@thereinliestherib Here’s the rub: In our system, there is a direct correlation between wealth and health, because care is so expensive, as well as other health-promoting things like nutritious food, belonging to a gym, etc. We need to do a better job of preventative, primary care, which will reduce the cost burden of disease complications. In other words, it’s a lot cheaper to help grandma take care of herself than to wait till she winds up in the hospital; it’s also better for grandma.

@thereinliestherib No! you pay more for healthcare, because the system is so inefficient and does not actually make you healthy, it means you are more likely to get chronic conditions, and therefore require expensive treatment. Don’t you see that the system is responsible for your health, so if your health is shit… its because the system failed. I think we disagree on a important principle here… I think the health system is responsible for your overall health, including how fat you are.
@thereinliestherib You’ve got it the wrong way around. The health system as a whole is responsible for overall public health, if the people are unhealthy its because the system is failing. We are healthier because our family doctor keeps on top of things, such as weight, smoking, hormones, immunisations etc… This is all a part of health. But even so, the UK is the fattest nation in Europe, and we still manage to provide 100% coverage for free, for half the price. Theres more to it then obesity

You pay less for healthcare because your country is healthier (though hardly as healthy as the rest of europe), not because of your “system”. Now compare your natl health/costs to Scandinavia–see a trend? I would actually support more socialized care in the US if the country was healthy. Because our doctors don’t care about profit. its all about whats best for the patient. if you sell health as a product, then you want your customers to be in your doors more, paying more, using all your equipment… this I believe simply explains the problem with the USA system. Im not here with an ideological agenda, I just want what works. The UK pays 8% and covers everybody for free. You pay 8% from gov, 8% from your pockets… 85% insured only, and you need to pay, meaning obviosuly the poor will miss out.

The Federal government had very little power like it should. And those principles are what made America the world power it used to be. @246alive Obamacare is socialist. Government control of healthcare is socialist. Under the new law, a dozen or so unelected bureaucrats are to be in charge of “cost-cutting”. This is acknowledged to include whether life-saving procedures should be carried out,etc. Socialism is all about concentrating power. And that’s what Obamacare is all about.
