Question by Steve: How do opponents of the health insurance mandate actually choose not to have health?
(I don’t mean good health or bad health, I simply mean “health”).

When the people who oppose the health insurance mandate are asked why they don’t oppose a car insurance mandate, they usually reply that:

you’re only required to buy car insurance if you own a car, and you don’t need car insurance if you don’t own a car.

Following the same logic it would mean that:

you should only be required to buy health insurance if you have health, and you don’t need health insurance if you don’t have health.

So, how exactly do the opponents of the health insurance mandate choose not to have health?
And, of course, the people who choose not to buy health insurance, and who get hit with a debilitating illness are NEVER going to go to a hospital? When they can’t pay – the hospital will simply pass the cost along to all the other people who do carry insurance. Some personal responsibility.
@AC: because when someone ends up having to go into the hospital, they usually can’t pay for it out of pocket. And when they don’t pay for it out of pocket, the hospital makes me and everyone else pay for it through higher prices.

And to all: remember, I said when I said health – I specifically said “not good health or bad health, I simply mean health”.

Best answer:

Answer by Giuseppe
Don’t confuse the cons with logic and facts, they will deny it all.

Question by : How can I afored health insurance on a fixed income? It will cost me a thired of my income ?
I am on a very fixed income with no health insurance. Even the government subsidized is to much, and my income won’t let me get medicade. So what are the people in my case suppose to do for health care? What can you do when a third of your income has to pay for your insurance.

Best answer:

Answer by Flower
Millions of others are in the same boat. If you are not yet 65 and have to pay 100% of your care, all you can do is find a low income or free health clinic. There is a network of them strewn across the entire USA you have to find them. Some are in the community alone, some are affiliiated with a university, some are affiliated with certain hospitals. You pay either on a sliding scale or at much reduced price from private physicians.

I dont know what insurance you are talking about that is subsidized. There are some private programs that cover health care in some states like this one here . . .

Some states have their health insurance exchanges already set up before 2014. Check with your state insurance commission.

He explains that during his fellowship he recognized that client’s perception of value is actually linked to the facilities and health services that are offered, more so than the insurance. This means that health microinsurance schemes need to go beyond just insurance, and the next generation of practitioners will need to take a cross-sectoral approach to address wider issues outside of health microinsruance.

Question by map711: How many health insurance policies written in USA in 2007 or 2006?
We understand that 49 million plus Americans do not have health insurance. There is individual and there is family insurance. Therefore, if 300 million Americans and 50 do not have health insurance then 250 million do. Were 250 million policies written?

Best answer:

Answer by mbrcatz17
Well, your numbers are off. About 42 million PEOPLE here in the US have no health insurance, and about HALF of them aren’t Americans. So you’re looking at about 21,000,000 Americans. HALF of them are uninsured by choice. They don’t WANT the health insurance.

No, there aren’t 250 million policies written. The vast, vast majority of Americans are covered by group health plans. My husband’s employer has ONE policy, which covers over 3,000 employees, AND THEIR FAMILIES. Maybe, 15,000 people total.

No one collects the number of policies there are in force. It’s too vast a project, and every day, the number changes.
